A weekend getaway to Jeonju ^^ It is famous for its Bibimbap ( Korean cuisine in general), Hanok village & being a slow-paced city(:
We woke up early hoping to take the 9plus or 10plus bus to Jeonju. However by the time we got there, all the tickets were sold out and the earliest was 2pm bus ride >.< So we went to Macs for breakfast and slack till 1pm plus. The bus ride there was 3 hours long. Thank goddess the bus was spacious and the bus journey was smoother than the journey to Jinhae 😛 I got to see what a typical rest stop in Korea looks like (:
This is our guest house for our one night stay. It is at the outskirts of the Hanok village. One thing about this guest house is that it is Female Only. oh and there was a piano in the guest house. Hehe ^^ missed my piano at home!
After we check in, we headed into the Hanok village to grab our dinner. Along the way there was a lot of traditional buildings that were nicely preserved ^^
We ate Bibimbap at one of the restaurants. The restaurant serves beef only, raw and cooked versions. They serve with a lot of sides and even serve with pancake!!! We also brought Jeonju Moju! It is rice wine with brown sugar, cinnamon and some other ingredients. (I realised that Jeonju people love sweet stuff a lot) The jar of Moju costed 8000 won and there was 8 of us. So Weiqi said we all had the drink 1000won worth of Moju each 😛 hahahahahaha ~~
As most of the attractions were closed, we just walked along the streets and saw two street buskers doing a live performance. Sim Ai actually texted them and in ENGLISH 😛 They did understand what she texted but they didn’t read out the whole message in English. They are doing really well live, especially the vocalist.
The Catholic Cathedral (:
Pungnam Gate! In these modern days, it is a a monument on its own in the centre and surrounded by shops.
We went back to the guest house but veered to the convenience store for some snacks. When we were leaving the convenience store, Weiqi suggested Noraebang and we spotted one next to the convenience store. On an impulse, we went in to sing for an hour. We sang quite a number of Korean songs, choir version of “You raise me up”, Westlife ‘s uptown girl, Wu ding and Ting Hai ~~~
Gyeonggiyeon. There are Hanoks used to prepare for various components of the sacrificial rituals. This is also the last place which still has King Taejo’s portrait still intact.
We played Tuho at Gyeonggiyeon. We keep trying but didn’t really succeeded. Then Dan Lim commented that we shall not leave until someone shoot in a goal 😛 Soon we decided to leave and abandon Dan Lim’s wish, but just then Sing Yee managed to shoot in a goal 😛 haha! so lucky ^^
Empress Weiqi (:
Not sure what type of painting is this but it is so cool. I did one and hopefully my mum agrees to let me hang it on my bedroom wall 😛
We saw a lot of people walking around with PNB bags. So we asked a lady and she gave us the directions with a choco pie. Omg! So nice (:
We ate Kalguksu, or knife-cut noodles handmade from wheat flour, and it tasted like ban mian. Reminds me of Singapore a lot.
This is a really really long queue for dumpling. Weiqi, WeiFang and Sim Ai brought really a lot of dumplings 😛 & Weiqi kept complaining that I took pictures of her eating all the time!! Haha.
Really like the houses there (: This city is really awesome. Good food, Slow pace of life and yet it is also a city ^^
This taught me to not ask a guy to take a picture using a polaroid 😛 off-center to the max! haha!
Here is the map of Jeonju with English words. I have also indicated the food places that we went (:
Weiqi, WeiFang and I took the later bus as there wasn’t enough tickets. The both of them accompanied me to find Taeyeon’s dad’s shop. So the next few photos are all from Taeyeon’s Shrine in her dad’s spectacle shop. OMG heaven for me man ~~ The fans were are amazing. They are so dedicated (not like me) to make the gifts. I bet it takes a lot of concentration and time. I am so satisfied now ^^ As WeiFang said, “her parents has taken ‘being proud of their daughter’ to another level” If only I had more time to stay there >.<
